Bedford Head - Sunday 23rd February 2023Mossbourne Rowing Academy competed at Bedford Head on 12th February. Their first event since the Christmas break. It was an opportunity for the more senior rowers to test themselves before the Schools Head of the River in March and a chance for the new year 9 rowers to compete for the first time since joining the racing squad in September. Over 70 Mossbourne rowers competed in 5 divisions throughout the day. The notoriously twisty Bedford course sees the rowers navigate 5 bridges along the the Great River Ouse, these bends and bridges are a challenge for boats with a cox and even more so for cox less boats where rowers steer with a steering foot. Thankfully we came away with all our equipment in good working order thanks to some excellent steering form our coxess and steers people. Of the 70 rowers and 20 crews we had competing we were fortunate to come away with 5 event wins. Our J14 Boys 8x+ were winners of their category. A great result for their first ever competitive race. The J16 Girls quad which featured 3 MVPA rowers were winners in their fiercely contested event, they took the win by just one second over Bedford Girls School thanks to some excellent steering through the bridges. The J14 Boys 4x+ produced a phenomenal, powerful row to win their event by 30 seconds beating crews from Star Club and Bedford. Our J14 Girls 4x+ (Pictured here in the 8x) were winners of their event, another great performance on their first ever competitive outing for the club. Our J15 Boys 4+ (Pictured here racing in their 8+) Were winners of their event. They also produced the highest GMT% of the day from all the Mossbourne crews racing. In total 28 Mossbourne rowers came away with rowing tankards. 3 crews also finished in 2nd place positions. A brilliant day out for all the rowers involved.
